Today's day 5 of the project an I am on track, although I did run into a bit of a problem and had to change my topic from what I previously had planned to something else. My last idea was great and would have been an awesome helpful thing to do, but unfortunately it just was not practical for me. All documentaries have some sort of bias, even if it barley shows, so to make an unbiased film about the two schools would be nearly impossible. Also because I do not own a car nor do I have my drivers license there is now way for me to get to Durango High School and and then back to Animas High School in the short time of only two class periods. My documentary is now a film about Animas High School and how we fit into this idea of project based learning, and also how we are adapting to become more embraced in project based learning. I am okay with this, as coming into the project I knew that at some point I would run into a problem, I am glad it happened early on before i started filming already. On top of changing my project this week I set up a meeting with Sean, our head of school, to get some background knowledge about the changes that are happening in order to fit project based learning better. On top this I watched countless videos and read many articles about writing a documentary script and how to make one without a script and I decided that not having a script would best fit the way that I shoot this film. My next step of action is to bring my camera to school and get shootin'. I am at the point now where I need to start collecting relevant B-Roll footage and possibly setting up some small scale interviews. I am trying to save most interviews until after I meet with Sean so I am more educated on the topic and know what questions to ask. I am on track and feel good about this film, I am excited to come back to class next week and get things rollin'.
