My biggest challenge this project was keeping myself focused and engaged everyday of the project. There were many days throughout the course of this project where I did not want to work on anything and just take a chill day. After doing this a few times I found that it puts me behind much more than I can afford to be. This was a tough challenge to overcome because in order to overcome it I had to change my entire perspective on the entire project. After having a serious talk with my peers and my parents I realized that this project could make or break my year in humanities and that it was time to step it up. To overcome it I began separating myself from friends and all distractions in the classroom, put in my headphones, and get to work. To start I would work hard half the class and then take the other half of the class easy. Once I could easily work hard for entire period I began working all class and eventually was motivated to my work and stay focused on what I was doing.
One thing I learned in this project that I will be able to use ten years from now is that my life is best when i'm organized, despite me being a very organized person. During the project I found that it really helps me get stuff done If I create a list with the most important information on top and the least on bottom. After reflecting on the project I found that I can apply being organized to other aspects of my life to keep me more positive. When I am not organized I tend to get stressed and overwhelmed, putting a little order into my life helps me keep a positive mindset and overall be a better person. This will be very applicable to my life in ten years when I am out on my own. If I can't keep my house, school work, and my life in general organized when I am out in the real world I will end up being a very stressed out overwhelmed person who can't deal with everyday tasks like homework or cleaning because of how overwhelmed I would be.
I believe every High school should be required to do a 20% project, especially if they are a college prep school. During the project I learned many skills that I can apply to my life outside of school and even when I am done with school. Through the process of the project I learned when I am out on my own things are going to be much different. No one will be holding my hand guiding me along. I believe that this project can show people their true strengths and weaknesses and can over all change you as a person.
